Denmark’s Minister for European Affairs visits Estonia
Denmark's new Minister for European Affairs, Marie Bjerre, visited Estonia on 22-23 October 2024 as part of the preparations for Denmark’s upcoming EU Presidency during the second half of 2025.
Minister Bjerre met with Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna to discuss topical EU issues, including enlargement, support to Ukraine, and EU competitiveness. The Ministers stressed and agreed on the importance of strengthened Nordic-Baltic cooperation, also within the EU, to ensure strong, secure and competitive Union.
During her visit, Minister Bjerre also met with the EU Affairs Committee in the Estonian Parliament, Riigikogu, to learn more about Estonia’s EU-priorities which in many areas are aligned with Danish priorities.
The important role of digital solutions and innovation for ensuring the EU’s competitiveness was a key topic during the ministerial visit. Commenting on Estonia’s digital development, Minister Bjerre said: "Estonia is among the countries with the most digital solutions worldwide. Denmark will cooperate with Estonia to promote the use of digital solutions throughout the EU, which can make life easier for EU citizens and businesses. This is necessary for improving our competitiveness.”
