105 years of Estonian independence and one year of war in Ukraine
24 February 2023 the 105th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Estonia was celebrated. Sadly, the day also marked one year from the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Estonia's Independence Day was celebrated in Tallinn and around the country. Ambassador Niels Boel Abrahamsen took part in a number of events in the capital, joining the flag hoisting on Toompea and the wreath laying at the monument for the War of Independence as well as the military parade on Freedom Square.
A guard team of the Danish soldiers serving at the NATO Battlegroup in Tapa and two Danish Leopard tanks also took part in the parade along Estonian and allied troops.
24 February also marked one year from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Estonia has shown strong support for Ukraine. So has Denmark, for instance by providing military and financial support and humanitarian aid amounting currently to 852 million euros.
