The Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod attended the Lennart Meri Conference in Tallinn on 13-15 May 2022.

The Lennart Meri Conference is internationally recognized with the participation of leading experts. This year, there was particularly great interest in the conference due to the war in Ukraine. From Denmark also Flemming Splidsboel (DIIS) and Lykke Friis (Tænketanken Europa) participated as speakers.

During the conference, the Minister took part in a panel debate on energy security, e.g. with EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson and German Deputy Minister Tobias Lindner. The focus was on independence from Russian oil and gas in the EU. The Minister advocated for a green and secure Europe with more wind energy.

The Minister also had a bilateral meeting with his Estonian colleague Eva-Maria Liimets, who thanked for the Danish support for Ukraine and NATO, including with soldiers in Estonia and Latvia. Together, they discussed the strengthening of NATO's defense in the East, the EU's new sanctions package and the green transition.

After an informal lunch on Saturday, the Minister’s trip continued to Berlin, where NATO foreign ministers addressed important discussions on the future of the alliance.
