On 10 June 2020 the winners of the art competition "Papercuts" based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales were announced.

The competition, organized by the Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in cooperation with the Danish Embassy in Tallinn, was held on 5-31 May.

Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales have over the years inspired numerous works of art. The art competition "Papercuts" invited 7 to 15 year-old schoolchildren to give a visual interpretation of one of the world-famous Danish writer’s fairy tales.

The jury selected the best amongst 161 creative works received in two age groups, and the winners were Suzanna (10 years old) with the collage "Thumbelina Meeting with the Prince" and Kerttu-Liis (15 years old) with the drawing "Princess on the Pea". The two winners will both receive a bicycle from the Danish company Kildemoes.

In the younger age group (7-11 years old) the jury decided to give Emma (7 years old) the second place for her work "The Little Mermaid" and the third place went to Lenna (10 years old) for watercolor "Wild Swans and the Ugly Duckling". In the older age group (12-15 years old), Natali's (14 years old) mixed technique "Pöial-Liisi" was chosen for the second place and Miia's (14 years old) work "Thumbelina" for the third place.

The members of the jury were Estonian artists-illustrators Heiki Ernits, Anni Mäger and Kertu Sillaste, Danish artist Mormor and the Danish Ambassador to Estonia Kristina Miskowiak Beckvard and Simon Holmberg, Director of the Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
