The 800th anniversary of Dannebrog, which according to legend fell from the sky in Estonia in 1219, is an important occasion to mark the flag, which is beautifully woven into Denmark's history. The flag is celebrated together with the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia – a very big event for Estonia.
The various anniversary events that range from art and history to museum exchange and music celebrate and remind us that Denmark and Estonia are close friends. Our two countries have a closely linked history and a long tradition of cooperation and mutual understanding. We share a number of common core values and interests that derive from freedom and independence.

The Danish celebration of Dannebrog 800 and Estonia 100 is for both Danes and Estonians, as well as for all others who would like to join in, and is coordinated in collaboration with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs / Embassy in Estonia, Danish Culture Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and the Danish Ministry of Culture. In addition, there are a number of Danish and Estonian partners who, in their own way, will contribute to the many elements of the celebration year.
